This term, our topic is ‘Are we there yet?’ This week, we read our key text for this term ‘Handa’s Surprise’. We came into school on Monday and our curiosity cube was filled with fruits from the story. We observed and tried to name them and then used describing words to talk about what they looked like. We then cut the fruits open and tried them and spoke about what they tasted like and which ones we liked and which ones we didn’t! The orange was the most popular and the passionfruit was the least popular! During the week, we have spent time dressing up in African clothes and listening to African music, making a class story map, retelling the story with actions and words and making puppets to help retell the story. We used different materials such as lolly sticks, tape and felt. We have also been learning to count backwards. We used the animals from the story and practised taking them away, counting backwards as we removed them.
