Term 1

Our Topic this term is entitled 'Fit For Life'.

What will stay with you forever? How does blood circulate around your body? How does the heart work? Your body is the most valuable thing you will ever own. It is our responsibility to keep our bodies fit and healthy (because they have to keep working for a really long time)! This term we are going to find out how best you can do that. Through a range of Science investigations and demonstrations we will explore the importance of physical and mental health wellbeing, and the factors which may affect it.

-----------------------------------

Year 5 have been keen participants in the first week back in school exploring the topic of ‘Earth and Beyond’. Over this first week, we have been learning about our solar system and the planets in our solar system.

The children had the task of creating their own rockets to get vital supplies from Earth to the International Space Station (ISS). The children had to design a rocket out of minimum supplies; create their rocket based off their plans; test their rocket and finally evaluate their rocket. This year we added an extra challenge for the children, making their rockets reusable. We explored the work of SpaceX and how they use reusable rockets in their missions to space.

Year 5 were also invited to an NHS workshop with healthcare professionals at Canterbury Christ Church University. We were given workshops by paediatric nurses, an art therapist and operational department practitioners (ODPs). Everyone had a fantastic time and learnt loads!
