Broadstairs
We are a fun-loving class who enjoy coming to school. We can't wait to show you everything we are going to be learning about during this year. We hope you love it as much as we will!
Our teacher is Mr Kennington and Mrs Cawood-Heath will be our amazing TA for this year!

Term 1
Fossil Hunt

As we were unable to visit the Warren this year, we brought the fossils to St Martins. Broadstairs class became palaeontologists as we searched the top field for hidden fossils around the grounds. Through this we were able to find out information about the fossils as well as what it meant for the area's prehistoric geography. Everybody got involved, even the local cats.
Andy Warhol prints

In art we've been looking at different ways to make pictures of the fossils we've found. We looked at the Pop Art movement and how Warhol used printing to make multiple versions of the same picture. We then took that process and applied it to our fossils, making a foam template and rolling paint on to it to create some striking images.
Term 2
Shields

This term we are looking at the Anglo-Saxons and how they shaped Britain. We started by looking at the Anglo-Saxon values, linking them to our school's values and then researching how different colours were used to represent these values. We then designed and made our own shields using colours which showed the values which were important to each of us.
Statues

As well as emulating the values of the Anglo-Saxons, we have been historians and have researched some of the important figures. We learned about the start of the Anglo-Saxon era and then made statues to record important people from that time: King Vortigan, Hengist and Horsa.
